Support for women

Your children and the Refuge

How will I feed my children?

When you arrive we will, if necessary, provide you with food for the first two days. By that time we should have helped you sort your basic money needs out, but if there has been a delay we will give you additional emergency supplies.

What will happen to my children?

Our well-staffed Children's Room offers a high standard of care and supervised play sessions for children of all ages. We have Ofsted registered pre-school provision for children of two years and above and a range of after school activities for older children, with play sessions and outings during the school holidays. If you do not live in the area, your children will be found places at local schools.

Refuge facilities for children

Your children's needs concern us as much as your own. The Refuge has a team of qualified children's workers who will work with you to ensure that those needs are met during your stay and will support you in your parenting at this difficult time.

Daily activities are provided at the Refuge for pre-school and school age children. These include regular outings in our minibus, ensuring that your children continue to have access to a range of experiences.

Developments in our children's services

We have increased the number of staff from two to five. This includes two playworkers providing a programme of activities to children from 18 months of age, and three children's support workers who can work individually with mothers or children and help them to access any additional services that they may need.
