For women

What else the Refuge offers

Drop-in support group

We hold a coffee morning on Thursday mornings from 10.30 to 12.30. This is an informal occasion. We provide a lounge, sofas and light refreshments, together with a crêche for pre-school children. Our coffee morning organiser, who has a great understanding of domestic violence, introduces new members to the group.

Topics of conversation are determined by the group and range widely. Domestic violence may or may not be discussed. But we find that many women enjoy the chance to chat to other women who have had similar experiences to themselves, whatever the topic of conversation.

If you would like to know more about our coffee mornings, phone 01206 500 585.

Counselling

Our counsellor provides one to one counselling for clients who request it. As there is a heavy demand for this service clients do sometimes have to be put on a waiting list.

You can get more information about this service by phoning one of our Welfare staff on 01206 500 586

Group work

Our group work programme consists of 20 weekly sessions held at the Refuge normally on a Wednesday. Childcare facilities are available. The aim of the group is to help women look at their past lives. By reviewing the way they have been living, we hope they will gain the confidence to make decisions about their future lives for themselves and their children, whether this is to stay or leave a relationship.

You can contact our Welfare manager for more information about this service on 01206 500 584

Floating support service

Our Floating Support worker can continue to offer practical support to clients after they have been re-housed. She also runs a coffee morning for her clients at the Refuge.

You can contact our Floating Support worker on 01206 500 586.
