What else the Refuge offers

Coffee mornings

The Refuge holds a coffee morning on Thursday mornings from 10.30 to 12.30. This is an informal occasion. We provide a lounge, sofas and light refreshments, together with a crêche for pre-school children. Our coffee morning organiser, who has a great understanding of domestic violence, introduces new members to the group.

Topics of conversation are determined by the group and range widely. Domestic violence may or may not be discussed. But we find that many women enjoy the chance to chat to other women who have had similar experiences to themselves, whatever the topic of conversation.

If you want to help a woman experiencing domestic violence and you think she might like to know more about our coffee mornings, either you or she can phone 01206 867 120.

Counselling

Our counsellor provides one to one counselling for clients who request it. As there is a heavy demand for this service clients do sometimes have to be put on a waiting list.

You can get more information about this service by phoning one of our Welfare staff on 01206 500 585

Group work

Our Group Support Programme can help you come to terms with your experience of domestic abuse and develop ways of preventing it happening again. Childcare facilities are available for residents.

You can contact our Welfare manager for more information about this service on 01206 500 584

Floating support service

Women will have an opportunity to meet and get to know our Floating Support Worker at For Women so that she can help them after they have left the Refuge.
