Helping clients and friends
Staying at home
If a client or friend doesn't want to come into the Refuge or needs support after leaving:
Call For Women our Outreach Centre on 01206 867120 or email forwomen@colchester-refuge.org.uk or visit 35 East Street, Colchester on weekdays from 10am to 2pm (except Wednesdays)
At For Women she will find a safe and comfortable meeting place staffed by women who will help her consider her options and make the right choices for her future at her own pace. She can bring her children with her. We will allocate her an Outreach Worker who will listen to her, believe what she says and offer practical and emotional support. All our services are free of charge.
The services at For Women include:
Practical help. The Outreach Worker will be able to help deal with housing, social services and benefits, arrange legal advice and advice about debts.
Coffee mornings. Our weekly coffee mornings provide an opportunity to chat with other women who have had similar experiences in a relaxed and friendly setting, and find out more about the Refuge and the services we offer.
Help with children. Our staff will discuss what she wants for her children and support her in finding appropriate help.
Group support programme. This can help her come to terms with her experience of domestic abuse and develop ways of preventing it happening again.
Domestic goddess course. This includes sewing and cooking.
Floating support. This offers practical support for clients who are still in their homes or former residents after they have been re-housed. There are also opportunities for clients to meet one another.
